Hello all; keeping with the general 5D-la theme of HK speed, here's another short update on Fresco. Walking in to hear the El Gordon latin music ensemble last Thursday was a fast moving salsa treat, and the usual steady hand of Eugene, Al, and company was excellent on top of Joyce's own big photo exhibit opening! If you haven't seen it, make sure to drop by Peel Street to the Studio for a look at her Mother / Daughter inspired world photography.
And the roster (May 11 - May 17):
- Monday: Barstool philosophy contemplates the plenipoteniary requirements of the former Russian Republics; hear about the 'stans and the Turkmenistani/Azerbaijani Caspian Sea crossing.
- Tuesday: Open mic leaves you a shot at the stage, or to heckle the rest of us (9:30PM)
- Wednesday: The Soul Crusaders are back with Bob Mocarsky's mix of neo-soul, boogaloo, and acid jazz organ with Skip Moy and Al Gordon (9:30PM)
- Thursday: Latin music night with salsa caliente from El Gordon on percussion, David Chala on vocals/keys, and Franklin Torres on bass/vocals (9:30PM)
- Friday: Rickard Malmsten upgrades to a Quintet; hear Swedish mainstay Rickard lead a selection of original jazz compositions to initiate contact with your weekend (9:30PM)
- Saturday: Superbass Rikky Aranas is back at Fresco with his funkified trio of top brass performers (10PM)
- Sunday: Chill out at Fresco as the pros hang their hats and engage in the underground sensation (9:30PM)
Salsa Caliente:

Trivia will need to wait until we discuss the return of Chinda-san's bebop jazz and Kevin Guffy's trio return next week.

in refinement - program is active at the register, please mention OSS. At the moment we're only collecting information from potential applicants that think they'll be up to the (unannounced) standards based on the above. Suffice it to say, it'll be something like "verifiable nontrivial commits to projects with any license recognized by the Open Source Initiative" with the rules subject to change as we work out what seems within the right spirit. Joining does include one free geek drink in addition to the usual discount (ever taste a Blue Screen of Death?).
