Grand pauses, forceful forzandos, and curtailed cue notes beware!
The Roots Rumble caught us all a little off guard last week, as the sounds of blue grass met hawaiian fast picking, with blues men showcasing sly handed harmonies where we least expected left a full night! I cursed myself again for not getting the live recording sorted out in time, after hearing a high energy night sneak by, but alas, make sure you walk away with the memory next time! Here's a look:
The dueling guitarists and harp quartet left the tonal house in order, before the weekend of the HK Sevens left us all drained for Monday! Thanks guys!
Jazzetry is back this week ahead of Ted and Rikky, with this for a lineup (Mar 20 - Apr 5):
- Monday: The thinkers of Barstool Philosophy wrestle with the ins and outs of Hong Kong's arts development initiatives (8PM)
- Tuesday: Jazzetry prefaces our usual open mic jam; come hear host Viki Holmes organize some dramatic reading set to music, and then get your dose of your weekly all-welcome jam night afterwards (Jazzetry: 7PM, Open Mic: 10PM)
- Wednesday: Bob Mocarsky, Skip Moy, and Al Gordon meet for their organ revival and groove inventions (9:30PM)
- Thursday: Latin jazz hears its fresh renditions with double keyboarded pianist Joao Mascarenhas, with Victor Geronimo on bass and DC on the drums (9:30PM)
- Friday: Ted Lo hosts his Organ Trio with Bob Mocarsky taking the keys so he can have a go at the drums; Eugene Pao picks up his velocity plectrum (9:30PM)
- Saturday: Rikky Aranas returns with his superbass style and some accompaniment; hear the lower octaves roil (10PM)
- Sunday: The sunday night mainstay of Chill Out at Fresco continues, with new tunes, excellent performers, and a certain je ne sais quoi (9PM)

Ted Lo's Organ Variations:
Trivia for you, but not for one holding the answer key:
Last time around, we kept things marginally dark bean related:
- Q: At the end of 1995, Netscape released this language, originally dubbed Mocha, in their flagship web browser in a renamed version that was widely criticized as a marketing ploy based on the similarity to another coffee language then becoming popular. What was the language called at release?
A: Javascript (yes, Java is a different language!)
- Q: Less well known than for his other exploits, this legendary value investor devised a scheme while in NYC where he started exchanging shares of stock for 80 pounds of cocoa beans per share in 1954. Who is the investor?
A: Warren Buffet (though the Oracle of Omaha was accepted)
And up for this week:
- Rumor has it that Lewis Carroll and Napoleon Boneparte both had a set of what then Harvard President Thomas Hill called a "geometrical puzzle for the youth". What are the seven boards of skill commonly called in English?
- Recently Becoming the third official alphabet of the European Union in 2007, modern Cyrillic (as used in Russia) has how many letters?
Next week we have Al showing a few Latin stylings, Rickard hosting Eugene, and Ah Hong back with a few moves to close out the lent.
À votre santé,

in refinement - program is active at the register, please mention OSS. At the moment we're only collecting information from potential applicants that think they'll be up to the (unannounced) standards based on the above. Suffice it to say, it'll be something like "verifiable nontrivial commits to projects with any license recognized by the Open Source Initiative" with the rules subject to change as we work out what seems within the right spirit. Joining does include one free geek drink in addition to the usual discount (ever taste a Blue Screen of Death?).
