Well met, triviaistas!
Tripthongs and neologisms aside, you answered the last few trivia questions with vigor; I will have to be a bit more careful about what I ask..
Given the new jazzetry event that we're going to try out before open mic tomorrow, let's get right to it (Feb 23 - Mar 1):
- Monday: No time to talk. Typing this!
- Tuesday: The fusion of jazz and poetry it's first run at Fresco! Viki Holmes hosts Jazzetry from 7 to 10, and then the regular open mic begins after that; come drop in to listen or have a go (7PM Jazzetry, 10PM Open Mic)
- Wednesday: The Organ Trio led by Bob Mocarsky returns with his Nord organ, come hear the revival (9:30PM)
- Thursday: Joao holds court with his trio of Latin inspired jazz ruminations (9:30PM)
- Friday: Hong Kong original pianist/drummer Ted Lo hitting the skins, joined by Wilson Lam on guitar and Sai Wai on bass (9:30PM)
- Saturday: Blues harp player Henry Chung is back in town with his Quartet, having booked the show before the reverberations left the bar from his first Fresco show last month (10PM)
- Sunday: The Pisces Chill out night is hosted this week by Skip Moy and Anthony Fernandes, enhancing your weekly dose of improv live music; tip your hat to the pros from around town, or hear a few come up with something new (9:30PM)
Jazzeticistic Poetizing:
Lo and Co.:
Chung's Quartet:
(Hopefully harder) Trivia:
The empire and the post proved not to be your match:
- Q. What is the only country in the world not to identify itself by name on stamps?
A. The United Kingdom
- Q. What was the name of Charlemagne's capital city?
A. Aachen
And for this week:
- The B.F. Goodrich Company originally coined this common name in 1923 to describe a new line of rubber overshoes, including a fastener, though the general idea was patented as early as 1851; what is the name / device?
- This General from the British army wrote the manual called "Scouting for boys" in 1907, which later formed the basis for a similarly named organization shortly thereafter; what is his name?
Coming next week Malmsten and Ho are back, for Friday and Saturday nights of original music and some new interpretations of a few standards; hear some of the basis for what brought us to the live music listeners of Hong Kong!

- The contest is complete on the Sunday following the day in which the questions are announced. No further submissions for that contest will be accepted for winning consideration.
- Open Source Discount Membership rules:
in refinement - program is active at the register, please mention OSS. At the moment we're only collecting information from potential applicants that think they'll be up to the (unannounced) standards based on the above. Suffice it to say, it'll be something like "verifiable nontrivial commits to projects with any license recognized by the Open Source Initiative" with the rules subject to change as we work out what seems within the right spirit. Joining does include one free geek drink in addition to the usual discount (ever taste a Blue Screen of Death?).
