Peel Fresco Music Lounge Newsletter Jun 23
(Mailing list information, including unsubscription instructions,
is located at the end of this message.)
Technical errors can't keep the newsletter down!
Thank you Joyce for the clinch save last week with the manual mailing of the newsletter; sorry to everyone about the delay in the publication. The Karissa Muse trio played to quite a crowd last Friday anyway with their mix of jazz standards and original compositions, well to the tune of your applause (photos coming soon on our online gallery at peelfresco.com/photos.php).
One or two other quick notes - it was a stellar party the week before, with Nolex putting in a surprise appearance after the Malmsten Second Generation wrapped up some excellent sets. Rain or shine, it's good to know music lovers won't be fair weather friends!
Here's the roster for the coming week (Jun 23 - Jun 29):
- Monday: A quiet night to take a break from the rush
- Tuesday: HK's newest open mic gives you the chance to rock out on the town, and get a free shot for the trouble (9:30PM)
- Wednesday: Ah-Hong continues with his deep toned bass to lead his trio, see below (9PM)
- Thursday: Shoichi Chinda and Kayoko Haruta are back with their combined sax and piano bebop jazz standards (9PM)
- Friday: The eerily haunting edgy tones of singer Reign Lee accompany Sue Shearman's symphonic rhythms on guitar for a night of original music, with special guests from the Joves Fuego trio; see below (9:30PM)
- Saturday: Singer Ela Alegre returns with guitarist Dan LaVelle and bassist Mike Carr for some high quality jazz; see below (9:30PM)
- Sunday: Chill night at Fresco continues with a constantly changing set of hosts and the best of Hong Kong's professional musicians; come by to hear authentic improvised compositions (8PM)
Ah-Hong's prestissimo bass and trio:
Reign Lee and Sue Shearman:

And Ela, Dan, and Mike's Saturday:
Trivialities:
Here's the week before last, and we've even included the answer key:
- Q: While Beijing may be referred to as "the northern capital", which city within a thousand miles or so may be referred to as "the eastern capital", borrowing the original meanings of their names?
A: Tokyo
- Q: Most time zones in the world are whole number differences from the Greenwich Mean (IE GMT +8 hours for us); name a country containing a timezone that isn't a whole number difference.
A: There's actually quite a few ;) You all seemed to split the different between India and Afghanistan
And for your ponderance:
- Which state in the US is also known as the Nutmeg State?
- What color is also known as a SI measuring unit of radiation absorption?
Coming up next week we have a few of our house favorites returning in addition to a special CD release party for former Wednesday night frontman Guy LeClaire. His new CD eponymously titled "Guy LeClaire HITz" will be available during his live performance of some of his recently aussified music, just before he takes up his regular residency across the water in the Venetian resort casino in Macau. Also coming up Thursday night for the first time are the Joses Liu trio with a mix of keyboards, vocals, and double bass.
