The return of liberty.
In my nation's capitol I am both saddened and enthused. The sadness I won't elaborate on (*cough* America has seen better years *hack* *wheeze*), but the final results came in; after the benefit I played at along with Andy Crawford (with some singing help from Joyce and a few of her friends) which raised over 10,000HKD for the earthquake victims in the recent Sichuan disaster, the Fresco fans did it themselves led by Eugene Pao, Ted Lo, and Ah Hong with another 10,000+HKD night donated to the same charity! Here's a picture of the night:
...and for those of you that need some documentation for tax or other purposes, here's a copy of the receipt.
Your generosity becomes all of you - a sincere thanks for your help. It was another inspiring night with singer songwriter Christina Maria passing through HK performing some of her original stuff (and a few standards) along with Jim Schneider on piano, and a big night for the pros last Sunday for chill out night - 14 musicians came by to express themselves and grab a drink!
With the last week (and patriotic longings) aside, here's the roll call for the upcoming week (May 26 - Jun 1):
- Monday: A brief break in the intrigue and the mystery while I'm in the former colonies, but back in force soon enough
- Tuesday: Hong Kong's freshest jam night carries on, with amateurs showing their wares; come by for a play or a listen (10PM)
- Wednesday: Guy LeClaire and Linus Why are accompanied this week with Anthony Fernandes on drums; learn how to make a guitar smoke with the rest of us (9PM)
- Thursday: The Glad / Lo project returns with singer Adrienne Glad and pianist John Lo playing their soulful night of heartfelt blues; see below (9PM)
- Friday: We're pleased to host Fresco's Renaissance Costume Party! Tsang Tak (ah)Hong jazzes up his bass with violinist Daniel Won Young Song, drummer Anthony Fernandes, and pianist Kayoko Haruta for the Punk Jazz Quartet. There's no cover charge, and we've even got a limited number of masks if you need one. The best costumist will receive a bottle of Nino Franco Prosecco (Italy), see below for the details (8PM)
- Saturday: The Kevin Guffy Trio get out and play with Jim Schneider on piano for a night of great R&B and blues (9:30PM)
- Sunday: Chilling Out at Fresco returns, with some of Hong Kong's best players improvising new licks - hear the melodious combine their thoughts in a performance that only exists for the time it is presented, and no more (8PM)

Ephemeral knowledge questionette:
Last week had a literary and a music question:
- Q: Goethe's "Faust" opens with a discussion between a few of the archangels, the devil, and God; what name does the devil go by in that story?
A: Mephistopheles
- Q: Who defeats "Person-Man" according to a 1990 song release by the group "They Might be Giants"?
A: Triangle Man
New questions to ponder:
- What term, generally used by the publishing industry, is typically used as a measure of a book to be published indicating a qualitative measure of the sound a book will make when slapped down upon a table?
- Languages generally transcribed into written form by a set of rules indicating their sound and spelling are called "alphabetic languages". What do you call a language generally written in hieroglyphic symbology?
Coming up next week we have special guest Bob Mocarsky joining the Rickard Malmsten trio for soft jazz (Jun 5) and travelling Australian jazz, blues and pop singer Pete Moore teaming up with house aussie Guy LeClaire for some fast strumming Friday night action (Jun 6).
